The close of the Cadel Evans Road Race today saw a very special, unexpected guest. Arriving early, Peter was granted the privilege of riding down the straight on his bike, all decked out in Australian flags to celebrate Australia Day.

After riding about 3.5 hours from the south end of Essendon near Moonee Ponds, after stopping off to show the Essendon Cycling Club guys what he’d create, Peter and his flags gave the gathered crowd and extra dose of Aussie pride.
And this isn’t a one off for the cycling character. Christmas time saw him decorate a bike in 170 Xmas lights and tinsel and ride around Melbourne spreading some Christmas cheer. Donning the Santa Down Under suit, the only thing missing was the beard that had to be shaved off due to the heat.
This proudly Australian 65 year old has no intention of slowing up with his cycling or love of bikes. He currently has 5 bikes stored in the hallway, 13 in the lounge room and about 20 in the garage/shed. As Peter so wisely sums up his philosophy to riding’ “What would you rather be doing? Mowing the lawn, painting, or out riding your bike, stopping every now and then for a beer”.
Happy Australia Day from everyone at Bunchrides. Ride safe, celebrate and give Peter a cheer if you see him ride by on his Aussie flag bike.
